Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson said that his city can learn from Calgary’s example when the Junos come to the capital next year.

The 2016 Juno Awards were hosted by Calgary, Alberta earlier this month, and included a variety of special events in the weeks leading up to the awards. Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi was on-hand to pass the torch to Watson at the April 3rd Awards Ceremony, held at the Calgary Saddledome.

Asked what the City of Ottawa can do to engage the community in Juno Week festivities, Watson praised local talent and stressed the need to “attract those great local musicians.” For example, he would like to see buskers performing in public places across the city, including the OC Transpo system, the O-train, Sparks Street, Bank Street, and the Byward Market.
